Sri Pada excursion on March 2017







We started the excursion by 1am, clear sky with millions of stars gave us hopes of better sunrise at the peak. This is pilgrims season, which is starting full moon of December to full moon of May. Rest of the year vacated for gods and goddess who visiting for worship the foot print. There should be a off season, while it is a world heritage forest reserve with lots of wild animals made home. They need a breeding environment with less disturbance  to ensure their generations for next hundred years.

There are over 1000 foot prints throughout the island with  32, 108 or 132 auspicious signs of Buddha. Rock inscriptions throughout the area written in 10th century describes the actual historical background of the place and about the contributions of the kings to the foot print.  There was a pagoda(Dagoba) - "Akasha Chethiya- Sky Pagoda" on the summit of the peak, which was visible to Colombo, Galle and Trincomalee.
